Profile Information

About Me
I understood art when I moved to Iraq as a four year old during the Iraq-Iran war. I lived in an Indian camp where the small Indian community preferred staying within and didn’t interact much with life outside that was dominated by a language and culture so different from its.
Iraq looked, smelt and sounded different. Unlike India, Iraq was not busy and every thing seemed to have a strange character of mistry. People looked deep into my eyes with curiosity and I imagined dressing up like them and living their life.
This is when I developed a sense of art and started using my imagination to understand the uniqueness and complexity of life and my relation to this intriguing culture and space through the smells, sounds and images around me.

Hi Pratibha,

I'm glad to hear that my profile picture makes you feel comforted. It is that side of us that is scared that we have to guide forward in a gentle way.

Dear Pratibha,

Thank you for your message. You seem like a very honest and open person and I appreciate it greatly.

As to your question about our early imprints in life and our referral to them in later life, I can tell only tell you my opinion based on my beliefs as I am not an expert in psychology.

I think for a person lacking a safe and loving relationship in the early years it will be more difficult in other relationships to come. But I don't think it is impossible to learn to love oneself and through that trust and love other people.

I believe there is some kind of inbuilt love in us or a connection to God from the day we are born. Like it's already in the imprint bank, but hidden. We have to get connected to it, especially when we are going through emotional distress. How it happens varies from a person to person, it could be through praying, drawing, walking in woods, meditation. But we have to truly want that connection, otherwise it does not work.

Im not sure if you are familiar with Carl Jungs work, but he stressed the importance of spirituality for human kind. To me his ideas and work are very important and have helped me a lot in understanding who I am.

Talk to you later, take care now
love, Katia

Hello Pratibha,

I read about your work in "amelias magazine" and was so intrigued by it that I joined this forum just to write to you. To say thank you, I felt so inspired.

I feel like I have had similar experiences than you, about life, about art, about being a mum. Its hard to combine the demands from family and the society with the need to be alone, to draw, to research life. But we have to not give in, because if we compromise too much we become "zombies". I could also talk about depersonalisation experiences as I'm so interested in these issues, but Im not going to fill your wall with it. :)

This forum seems to have a great energy about it, the topics covered here are something I have not found anywhere else. I am immensely interested in how art and awareness can aid spiritual growth and help us reach our potential in life.
