Venkatesh, in response to your other query, Living Wood by George Michell would be a good reference for you. Its a good pictorial , with several images and literature, but not generally accurate with dates. However the dating on the chariot pieces are more or less correct.

This is a late Tanjore, pre-independence period but of good quality. Baby Krishna as a butter thief.

If you look at the tanjore thread you can see the difference between old and new. Determining the age comes with experience. It is painting specific. But anyways Tanjores were done mainly through a small 100 yr span. Within the old ones the quality matters more than the age. But yes, like most art forms it declined towards the end.

Dear Deepak Today morning i came back from the stone inscriptions training camp. this was organised by Hampi University in association with Jain mutt - moodbidri at 1000 pillar Jain Basadi.
many scholars took the sessions on various parameters of incriptions.
it was a grate opportunity to study the temple art , architecture and the incriptions

The exhibition is close to my gallery. Had a look yesterday. Mainly William Daniel sketches and prints and 4 - 5 miniatures. I wonder what the idea is. Perhaps they are trying to show the brit - india connection.
